LDV: I was reminded of fractal thinking – and how it may be directly related to the importance of diversity.
DRO: Language is very important. ‘Sustainable’ and ‘Green’ have become very charged and widely misunderstood words. Be more specific, like ‘energy

LDV: Freedom is a term that most people identify positively with when thinking about sustainability.

Laura’s Ideas: Oregon, play, strengthening bonds

Link

This is a compilation of my thought process. I was thinking about keeping the home feel of Oregon, and Dixon Recreation Center and Kelley Engineering popped into my brain. Dixon has retrofitted exercise machines and Kelley Engineering is not only beautifully designed but sustainable in certain aspects.

Next, play is a significant factor in making people feel a part of a space and perpetuating that feeling. These can be seen in the adult playground setting images. Las Vegas goes a step further with people actually using construction machines. In addition, creating music is a form of play that is crucial to the human senses. If people personally take part in play and construction of a space, they are more likely to relate and form a bond with it.

Therefore, this beloved space is summed up in a photo we’ve been talking about this week, “The Living Bridge.” The people have constructed over generations living bridges across dangerous waters with the strangling fig. This bridge is not only sustainable, but also is a deeply engrained history for the people while showing appreciation for nature.

It would be amazing to somehow make a living bridge, wall or structure in which people can keep adding strength to the Oregon Sustainability Center through action that promotes environment.

Before the images begin (along with one video of the Living Bridge – amazing) here are some Fun Theory links, Piano stair project:
